Meditative. While reviewing Gail’s works in the Passing Through project I distinctly felt that the works truly had a meditative quality. I knew when I saw this project, among many interesting works Gail has produced, I was interested in them initially because they are beautiful, lovely compositions. As I spent more time with them I began to feel a quiet sense of myself. A sense of reflection. A sort of calmness. As Gail says in her statement, “Capturing the serene and ephemeral ambiance of light connects me to the natural rhythms of each day”. Looking at these images I feel that ephemeral ambiance. Pensive compositions, nestling images from the home along side serene pictures from nature. These diptychs are thoughtful, attentive. I find the nearness of the architectural domestic setting to the quiet of natural imagery to be compelling. They leave me with a quiet harmonious feeling that feels pretty good right about now.

Passing Through
Slants of faint light grace my bedroom walls as day breaks over nearby trees. At dusk, my hallway glows red and orange as the western sky turns purple. A shared essence of light inside and out has inspired me to pair my photographs. Placing a softly lit domestic scene beside a natural landscape, I discover colors and shapes that echo, combining to deepen their mood. Capturing the serene and ephemeral ambiance of light connects me to the natural rhythms of each day.
